Thanksgiving...

It is challenge day over at Cricut Cardz Challenge. Todays challenge is to do a Thanksgiving card with any cartridge you want. This weekend is Thanksgiving in Canada, so the timing was perfect. I am going to give this card to my mum and dad this weekend. We always go away together for the holidays. Here is what I came up with:

This is a step card. I knew I wanted to use both the pilgrims, and do some kind of staircase or side step card, but I wanted it to have two steps. After much searching, I found THIS tutorial. It seemed to fit the bill perfectly. I widened the side panels a bit to fit my pilgrims, but other than that, followed the directions exactly.

The cartridges I used were Paper Doll Dress Up, Create a Critter, and Opposites Attract - I welded the word "harvest" on my Gypsy. The paper involoved is mostly Stampin Up, but some is from my scraps box. The Happy Thanksgiving stamp is from Stampendous and the cute little faces are from Peachy Keen Stamps. I was pretty happy with how the card turned out.

Hope you all come play with us over at Cricut Cardz Challenges - and be sure to check out all the other Design Team members submissions.

Paper Playtime Queen

I have been asked to be a "queen" over at Paper Playtime. Isn't that exciting?? As a member of their design team, I will be participating in weekly challenges each Monday. The project can be anything - a layout, card, a tag, mini album... the options are endless. It must fit in with the week's theme. I hope you all come over and play with us :)

Today's challenge is to use ribbon, buttons or rhinestones or all 3. Here is what I came up with:

I decided to use ribbon and rhinestones. I you are a regular visitor to my blog, you will know that I made my first card with buttons only last week. I had planned to try to incorporate all 3 items into my card, but in the end couldn't find the right button for this card. Admittedly, I have an extremely small collection to choose from...

Isn't my little queen kitty cute? I chose her in honour of my first week as a Paper Queen! I cut her from my Paisley cartridge. The oval is from George and Basic Shapes, and the scalloped oval is actually a tag from Winter Wonderland. I manipulated the shape on my Gypsy to fit the original oval, and used the hide contour feature to hide the hole on the tag. The stamp I used is from Lots of Pun by Joy's Life. The paper is mostly Stampin Up, and the patterned paper is from my scraps box, and I just don't remember who it's from.

Before I sign off, I want to say how honoured I am to be a part of this design team. There are many talented women who are also Queens. Over the next day or so, I will be posting a list of them on my blog, and encourage you to go visit them and get inspired - I know they inspire me :)

Lovely Leaves

Something ridiculous is going on in Nova Scotia this fall. It is still summer! It has been unseasonably warm here, and it is October, so I made a fall card. Here it is:

The stamp is Stampin Up's "Seasons of Friendship" which i have always really liked. I was trying to make the leaves look like they were changing colors, so I inked it up in one color, and stamped it off on a scratch paper, and then ran the edges of the stamp through a second color - and stamped them onto the picture. I am pleased with how it turned out. All the paper I used is from Stampin Up.

Here are the challenges I am submitting this for:

A Crafty Little Place - autumn daze
Tuesday Taggers - autumn
For Fun Challenges - autumn
Simon Says Challenges -it's autumn
Stampin for the Weekend - autumn colors
Something Completely Different - orange, brown and gold

Around the World...

World Card day is in October - if I'm not wrong it is today. The original inspiration for this card was a challenge posted on Crafty Cardmakers called Around the World, in honor of world card day. As soon as I read the title, this stamp came immediately to mind. It made me think of unity... world peace... how perfect for world card day - and this challenge. Too bad I didn't actually read the instructions... it very clearly said it must be easily identifiable with one country ore continent. Sadly, this is not. I may submit it anyway - after all, the challenge inspired the card, and I am proud of my card :)

The stamp used here is from Stampin Up, an older set called The World Over (I think) the paper is all Stampin up and I got the ribbon from Walmart.

Challenges I am submitting this challenge for:
OWH Stars and Stamps - sketch #36
Always Crafting - inspired card
Sew Many Challenges - anything goes
CES Challenges - hats

3 Little Dolls

I have had a busy day of crafting after my crazy day at work yesterday. It has been nice to take some time for something I enjoy. Back to work tomorrow, only off Sunday and then back to work for 4 more. Here are a few of the cards:

These little girls are from Hero Arts, and I have always loved them. I wanted to have a few "thinking of you" cards on standby, for when I needed them, so I made a few. the paper is all Stampin Up and the ribbon from the Dollar Store. I used a some stickles to bling them up a little. They are really simple, but I like them.

Challenges for today:
Crafty Cardmakers - oriental
Crazy 4 Challenges - bling
Creative Card Crew - flowers

Hope you all have a great weekend :)

Baby It's Cold...

The seasons have changed in the Maritimes. Fall is rolling in and winter won't be far behind. I was at work today, and this cut was on my mind. So I came home, after my 12 hour shift, and made this card:

This cute little beaver is from Winter Frolic, and is my first cut from that cartridge. I cut him at 2.5 inches. The stamp is from Close to My Heart. The card stock is mostly Stampin Up and the patterned paper is from My Mind's Eye. Although it doesn't look exactly how it did in my head, I think it's still cute :)

Here are the challenges I am submitting this card for:
Raise the Bar - bundle up
CES Challenges - animal antics
Paper Pretties - animals or animal print
My Sheri Crafts - masculine card - my beaver is a boy, the colors are fairly masculine and there is no bling or ribbon- My husband agreed this would be an OK card for a man.
Splitcoast Stamper - sketch 300
